I did 40 of a 50 mile race with Rhett.  My plan never was to run the whole thing because I am marathon training right now, but it was a great time!  Amazing to run on Catalina Island and the views were amazing.  I have to say it was one of the most amazing experiences I have had running.  It was a lot of fun to spend the weekend with Rhett and it was a ton of fun to run with Rhett.

It was a great "race" with Rhett today.  We both wanted to gauge where we were at with training so we entered the second annual Lake Havasu Balloon Festival Half Marathon.  It was a really nice morning, but a little too windy for the balloons to go off.  Overall I felt really good.  I was able to keep almost all of my miles under MP and my legs felt good when I finished.  Rhett and I finished together, but I figured I finished second because if he wanted to leave me in the dust at the end I am sure he could have.  It was a confidence booster for my upcoming marathon where I am going to BQ.

Long run.  I usually have Rhett to run with and the time just flies, but I ran alone this time and it was rough...  I only had time to do 18 miles because of a meeting but I could have done much more.  I am still sick, but my legs felt pretty good.

Felt really good running today.  I was able to keep my HR low and still run at a decent clip.  1 downhill mile ended up being at MP, but my HR was still about 140.

Long run.  First 6 miles were all uphill and were kept in check by my HR.  They were pretty slow miles.  Uphill and a headwind.

The next 9 miles were mainly downhill and all done at MP.  It started to rain so I was able to run a mile or so in the rain.  Felt great!  Only issue was, again, a headwind.

Last 2 miles were really easy trying to get the HR back to 146.  The last mile I stopped and walked a little to get the HR down.

Overall felt great and was happy with the distance and the way I was able to run.

8 really easy miles in the wind.  I thought about 9 but with it being windy making my run a little tougher, I decided on just 8.

It was a really nice morning to run.  Overcast and a little cool.  Felt great to get out and run.

All the miles were nice and easy keeping the HR under 146.

I think the AP was just over 8:30 but I am not tracking that too much other than the fact that I can tell my HR is going down and my speed is slightly increasing.

Well, I guess I need to update the blog on my race...

I was so thankful for the weather and the beautiful day we had for this race.  I couldn't have asked for more beautiful weather, other than just slightly less wind.  For the first mile or 2 we actually had snow.  It was amazing to start a marathon with snow.  The course was pretty much all downhill and fast.  I felt really good and was able to keep my splits almost exactly at 7 min/mile until about mile 24.  At that point the course became much flatter, the sun was out, and there were a lot more hills because we were in the city.  I didn't expect all the hills to end the race, but somehow I was able to push through them.

As I got close to the finish line I could hear my coach Rhett yelling and pushing me along.  I was really thankful for him being there because he really helped me push hard the last 1/4 mile or so.  He kept reminding me that every second was important.  I crossed the finish line at 3:07:22.  I have been working/trying for 4 years to BQ so I was very excited to finally accomplish that goal.  I am not sure if my time will allow me to run Boston, but either way I am happy with my time and the effort I put into the run.

I had a good run with Rhett this morning in the desert.  It was really hot and a little humid.  It was 95 degrees when we started.  Hello summer!
